Just checking in, had a very busy few months with family and personal issues that sorta took priority over my online activities.

I'm enjoying seeing how everyone else is doing, lots of beautiful wagons and serious progress on several projects.

Myself, not anything major to add right now, just that I got my Loyale inspected, had to replace a tie rod bushing and I know before next year I'll have to replace the passenger side wheel bearing, but otherwise it went well. :)

And I reinstalled the fuse for the A/C since the temps are starting to creep back up into the mid 80s (I take it out over winter to eliminate the compressor needlessly dragging down my MPG).

Getting ready to haul the crew down to the Outer Banks next week. Going to take my wife's minivan, but since two of my boys are bringing friends we'll be taking my oldest son's Legacy wagon as a second vehicle.

Looking forward to the beach!:dancing::yippee::yahoo::D

    p.s. I'm loving "TheLoyale's" fantastic Subarus!

Subaru wagons are great! I have had three, a '95 legacy stick (sold it with 280k and at last check it was at 340k), a '96 legacy auto (sold it with 220k and made it 250k before she sold it), and my current daily driver, a '97 Legacy Outback with 200k and still going strong. I can't say enouogh good things about these cars.

Had an unexpected wagon activity this morning. After dropping my son off for a Scout hike and stopping at a store I returned home without issue. About 30 minutes later I went to back the car up some in the garage so I could polish up the headlight lenses and when I turned the key the starter didn't engage the flexplate. It did however, commence to spinning full toot. When I turned the ignition off, the starter kept on going. Sounded like 20,000 rpm and I could begin to smell burning electrical components.

I popped the hood, grabbed a 5/16 wrench and yanked the negative battery cable off. I waited a few minutes and touched the cable back to the battery and sure enough, WIZZZZZZZ!; there goes the starter again. Never had a starter fail like that before! It was an AutoZone reman. job with a lifetime warranty that I put on within the last six months. :hmmm: Swapped it out and all is well again.

Don't you love when your car decides to break right there at home? Best place for it. Many years ago the original fuel pump died right in the driveway. At least the car is respectful of where it wants to get ill. :cold:

I have been fortunate like you to have most of my car issues happen at home, except for one flat tire and a pulley(tensioner) let go...oh yeah I did have my driveshaft fall out once...that was scary.

Good to hear from you Dogbone.

Lucked out major domo today at the Monroe, WA swap meet. I looked for 27 years for decent rear bumper end caps and eventually found a pair of the closed one (no exhaust outlet) for $800. Yeah, that's right, 800 smackers. They did come with a bumper, but all I needed was those darned end caps to replace my really bad ones. That was 5 years ago and I've continue to look for the exhaust outlet ones with no success.

Walking Monroe (well, okay, hobbling, who says we're getting "on") we spied a pair of the exhaust units, complete with the adaptors to the exhaust pipes, on a chromers table. They are as new having just been rechromed. The story - a fellow came in looking for a pair and the chrome guy used his US wide connections to finally locate a pair. Then he spent time rebuilding them including a beautiful chrome job. Meanwhile, the fellow who wanted them basically disappeared. So they showed up on the table for sale today and for $300 they now reside in my sweaty paws - well, on the bench as I can't type and hold those heavy end caps at the same time.

My buddy needs a set as well and he's been looking since he bought his 2 dr 31 or 32 years ago (about the same time I got my Safari) so I suppose I'll have to make his day and offer him the full capped set. He will hopefully be delighted.

I also picked up a couple of other small pieces I've needed for years for the wagon and could never find, only to run in to a guy with both pieces for 33 bucks.

And picked up a set of new mirrors (exterior) for the Chevelle at the same time as the originals are looking like they are 42 years old. Got ripped on them though, the guy gave me a "deal" for 70 bucks for the pair. Twenty minutes later, at another booth, the same mirrors, regular 30 on for 20. Aaaarrrrggggggghhhhhhh. Could drive a guy to :drink:

There were a few other goodies there I'd of loved to bring home with me but sanity kicked in and I realized that I'd blown my car budget for the next couple of months. Oh well..........

I'll continue to keep an eye out (I'm always looking for my next Sube, and also currently looking for an older Jeep Wrangler).

Not much local Sube action in craigslist lately except the usual later model ones.

Good to be back, thanks! :)

Well, we had a beautiful morning here today. Went out with Mrs. Dogbone to run some errands, and came home and I decided to tackle a quick project I've been putting off for some time-- replacing the tired, worn out crackling and buzzing OEM stereo speakers in the front doors of my Loyale.

Although I have several sets of generic speakers laying around from old vehicles and past projects, I didn't have the exact odd-ball size (5.25"?) originally equipped in the Sube.

Since I'm a cheapskate I simply made some adapters out of some scrap industrial gasket material I had laying around. That gasket material is very stiff but lightweight and easy to work with and trim, much like a very thin sheet of wood, except it's waterproof.

Anyway, a little persuasion here and a little soldering there, and now I'm able to play my tunes without them sounding like they're coming from a bowl of rice crispies. ;)

Good little upgrade, actually looking forward to my morning commute tomorrow. :)
