Hi,

I'm looking for the name of a particular style of station wagon and this forum seems to be the right kind of place to ask! (I figure if anyone knows about station wagons, it'll be someone here!)

I'm looking for something similar in general shape to a 1987 Chevrolet Caprice - something from the 80s (or possibly late 70) - wood panel on the sides, big square front. Except - rather than a big swing door on the rear, I'd like a model which has a two part door where the glass part opens upward on a hinge at the top and the bottom section folds out flat so you could sit on it.

If anyone knows where I could find some pictures of this style of car that would be even better!

Any pointers would be apperciated

thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete, I'm not sure I can help but have you looked through the Gallery to see if your car may be there?

Welcome! Maybe you're thinking of a late 70's or early 80's Malibu wagon or one of it's GM cousins?

:Welcome:gcp-------I like the style of wagon like you described. I like the tailgate that we can sit on or place longer items inside, like a truck. Good luck and have fun here in the wagon forum. Altho the clamshell looks nice.

I've seen 80s Olds custom cruisers like that. I'm not sure if that's what you;re looking for but I've seen em around.

Pete, you do know that the tailgate on the '78 - '90 big GM wagons is a 2-way gate, don't you? It does fold down as well as swing to the side like a door. Same process as the big Fords from '66-'91. Only thing different from what you are describing is that the glass goes down inside the gate instead of lifting up on hinges.

Dy,up.....

82 and 83 (mine) but hey are called Cutlass Cruiser. The Custom Cruiser was the full size, as KK described, rear window slides down into the gate.

82...

I forgot about the roll down windows. My 72 Gran Torino had that with the two way gate. Liked that.
I know nothing about the clamshells. They look nice but I'd be afraid of problems. I need to look at more station wagons in the real world.
