2 weeks ago, when at my wifes fathers house, where we had spent from before Christmas until last weekend, the wife and i were talking and she said I want to go home. I told her we were on Sunday. She said, "no, I want to go HOME", "I said you mean New York", she said "yes".

I was floored, I have been turned down for 3 jobs, all of which offered insulting slave wages. So we been feeling very discouraged that we made a HUGE mistake. She even says how much this country has turned to chiz since she was last here in 2004. Back then, I could have landed a job paying over a grand a month, now I get turned down for $300 a month jobs.

Well, we made friends with an American who came here 19 months ago, married a young girl and they have a 19 month old son together. Her family is all oportunists and suck him dry on money the second he has any. He is fed up with it and she is also, but being so young, she is very influanced by them and afraid they will shun her if she stands up to them, which, they will do, of that I am 500% positive, he is their meal ticket.

She told him, take me to America, so she does not have to deal with them doing this anymore. She knows she is powerless unless she can get away, far away from them. So he is going to move back to Roanoke, Virginia and said if we wanna come back, we should move down there, cost of living is cheaper then NY, jobs are more plentiful then the hick town we lived in, they get little, if any, snow each winter.

Well I talked to Olin about it and we agreed that I should come home first and find work, get a place, start over fresh(since we have nothing there but the clothes we bring back) and once I get settled, get them there. I talked to Rod about it, and he said here is his offer.

Since I have done all the paperwork to bring my wife back and then helped my ex-bestfriend do all of his to get his wife there, then I can come stay with him, since he will be lonely for the 18 month wait to get his wife and kid approved. He said helping him do all his paperwork will cover my share of the bills until I get started in a job and can get a place for me and the family.

So, I am comin home, we are very excited, me especially, its only 7 hours to my parents in NY, 6 hours to my one brother in PA and 4 hours to my other brother in NC. So within a couple months, I will be home.

It was nice to come here and find out for myself that there is no place like home. Sure the weather here is nice, the cost of living is pennys and the women are hotter then the sun, but its not home and there is so many things I miss. Like the food, the real washing machines, the ease of traffic flow and how people back home seem to have more brains and common sense then a chipmunk with mental retardation.

I wont be owning a wagon, not right away anyhow. I am looking for a dirt cheap pickup, like to find a beater 67-79 FORD, no fuel injected crap. 1/2 or 3/4 ton and 2wd is fine for me, it will keep me from being stupid and wanting to go off road trail blazing. I will need one for bringing home the weekly purchases of furniture. I dont mind if it needs paint, bodywork or needing a few small issues fixed. As long as it runs and is driveable. I would even take a Dodge, or Chevy truck(tho the Chevys are hard to find not rusted out or for double the money as the FORD's. and the Dodge's all seem to have tranny issues). I also want something that has the ability to eventually tow a car trailer or dolly, because I know 5 people who would love for me to drag up some sounthern cars and trucks for them as well as parts. Would make a nice sideline business to atleast pay for my fuel expenses on coming up for a visit.

Wife wants something like a last generation Firebird or Camaro, V6 Auto, since its just the 4 of us, we dont need anything big. I see them priced for under $2k all over the VA area. She hates square body cars. But the silly girl does like the looks of Cherokees, go figure. So no idea if I can convince her into driving a wagon again. I will have my Pick'um up Truck to tool around in so it will be the truck and one car for awhile.

    So Momma, I'm comin home!

Wow, Scott! Great news for you and your family...
I think you're making the right decision, from all you've posted. Also a good idea to get settled a little further south. Don't understand particularly why, but it seems the south is weathering this economic downturn a bit better than other places.

Thanks KK, we have a few good reasons to head south.

    1. Milder winters, since the wife is allergic to cold
    2. Older cars and trucks easy to find and in better shape then 10 year old cars/truck in NY
    3. Always loved Virginia area, the wilderness, the mountains, and all nestled in between the busy cities that have the jobs.
    4. I always been a hillbilly redneck trapped on the wrong side of the Mason Dixon.
    5. Economy is better and them southern employers seem to love Yanks working for them, we come to work, to work, not loaf around like most southerners do when on the clock.
    6. Away from home and the drama of some of my family, but not so far away to stop from visiting when we can.
    7. After being here on the other side of the world, I know I can be away from my sons and parents and still be ale to live a normal life, where before, I would be to afraid to be without them and that trapped me in a dead economy and in many dead end no future jobs.
    8. Did I mention all the cool older cars and trucks that can me had cheap and in good shape? The ones you only see pics of online or at car shows and know that can never be found locally.

You have the same reasons to move south as the reasons why I want to! Especially reason #4. Did I ever mention my siblings names are Robert Lee and Dixie? No joke.

Thanks CE, I have not been this happy and relieved in a long time. I kept hinting to her that I wanted to go home, but she is the one who finally was home and I could not bring myself to make her leave her family after 7 years away from them. I am glad she now sees that we have nothing here, no future and no chance of happiness and that she considers America her home now. We worry from week to week how we are gonna eat and pay the bills. Now that can be over with. There is always help back home for those who need it if worse comes to worse, unlike here, you have no money, you starve.

But I know I can find work there, I have so much experience in so many different fields that I cant remember all the things I have done unless I really stop to think about them.

You should do it CE, Tenn or KY are awesome places to visit and I know some guys who live down there and they love it. I wouldnt go all the way south myself, I dont like LA, TX, AL or FL much, but central south is pretty nice. I like the hill and mountain areas myself. I plan to someday own anther Wheeler or a dirtbike and go trail riding. My brother goes from centeral PA into VA and WV with 5 of his buddies for a week to ride on the mountain trails, one of them has a HUGE gooseneck camper and a Dually Diesel Chevy. they pull a trailer behind the camper and go tandem with the bikes, wheelers, tires and tools. The do it all serious, would have to be real serious to drag a 38 foot camper and a 16 foot trailer behind a Dually on them mountain roads that have curvex mirrors on some of the curves. My brother said a few times he looked out the passenger widow and saw the trailer with the bikes and wheelers beside them on the other side of the curve

And wow, those are some Dukes of Hazard names there, hahaha.

I'm relieved just reading this. I'll be honest. I've been worried about you and yours since you moved there. I don't know much about the area, but I didn't think you'd do well financially there. I know nothing of the economy, though.

I want to go, but I've got to wait until my parents retire. That's when they're moving south. My family unit is a strong one, and we do everything as a team.

Any ideas on what part of the south? And how many more years you have till they retire?

My dad retired 3 years ago and my mom is retiring this coming September. Then they will have more time to come visit. My family has allways been close also. I lived 10 miles away from them before coming here and my oldest brother bought a place 2 miles from them. My 2nd oldest lives 2 hours away, but comes up 1-2 times a month for the weekend, but then you have the 2nd youngest(Im the youngest) who has turned his back on us after he decided to come out of his closet and he moved to Florida and now in NC. Him and I always been close and I am the most accepting of his sexual choices, but we still don't talk much and I have not seen him since my Grandmas funeral 3 years ago. He thinks the family has shunned him, which they haven't, tho the rest don't like him being gay much. Me, I could care less, its his life, just dont be kissing his boyfriend infront of me, which isn't a problem, they keep that behind closed doors.

when i lived in florida i got hired simply because i was a northerner (better economy at that time). i worked circles around the 2 Hatians i worked with.

as far as cars go....can't you get the longboard back off your brother? that would be cheaper than a truck right now wouldn't it?

It was my cousin not my brother. He tried to sell it for 6 months, advertised it in the papers for $650 and not one single person stopped or called, he is not good on a computer, so he didnt craigslist or ebay it, tho I would have done it for him if he asked. He pulled the new starter, alternator, whole new tierod assembly that I just installed, the rear 3.23 posi unit and gears and the muffler.

Then he yanked the radiator, heater core and condenser and took the tires off the aluminum wheels and took it in for scrap and got a total of $855 for it all in scrap.

Im not happy about it, but I tried to see it go to a good home, locally, on here and on craigslist and he tried to sell it also. It had 1 rust spot and it was a hole the size of a quarter in the driver quarter, the rest of the florida car was rust free and in good shape. Now its being turned into Chinese junk.

    YAAAAYYYY!!!!

I'm glad to hear this, Blackie! I never liked the idea of you going there in the first place. At my age I already know that the grass isn't necessarily greener elsewhere. Then....with your recent posts...I felt really bad for you. Hey...it takes a big man to stand up and say "I made a mistake"! You will be much better off back on your home ground and I wish you all the luck in the world. WELCOMEalmostBACK!!:thumbs2::thumbs2::clap:

Congrats Scott! I know it's probably a pain and pulling up roots is never an easy decision to make. Hope all goes well and smoothly. God bless.
