They were just finishing up some of the dedicated roadways for these when we moved up here. The 'Catapillers' can use normal boulevards, but they are so big that dedicated right-of ways are used in some places (usually down the middle of divided parkways...) Big uproar in local politics because the bureaucrats want to spend more money (many millions) to extend the EMX lines into west Eugene. Involves major construction, disruption of local businesses, etc. for quite some time.

Big scam, if you ask me. They don't seem to do anything a regular bus can't do....I think the local politicos just want to have some feather in their cap, at taxpayers expense, of course. (Feds I'm sure ponied up a big percentage of this...)

Untill I retired a year ago to take my Classic Car restoration business to a full time operation I spent 21 years working for Phoenix Transit so I figured this would be a good place to post this. I did the major accident repair. Here's a couple of pictures of one of the major wrecks I had to repair.

Yellerspirit, I owned the lead bus(#2139) in your post #82.I purchased it from a guy north of Seattle, it was in1977, at the time it had terminal wiring problems, but ran well.
The bus had been gutted, only the drivers seat remained. The P/O was going to do a RV conversion, but the wiring scared him off. I did a complete motor home interior and a total rewire, leaving only the original battery cables. My family enjoyed it for many years.
We made many trips to Socal, Arizona, and Nevada, lived in it full time for a few years
when I hit hard times and had to chase work. The ex-wife got it in the divorce, the last I saw of it she was trying to sell it, in the Monroe ,Wash area. I still have a lot of good memories though.

    ...................Jack

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1976 GMC Coach

The slogan emblazoned across the aluminum body of this 1976 GMC Coach says all and nothing at once: Easiest Travel on Earth. This, like many other advertising slogans, was carefully crafted to convey a sense of comfort, authority, and convenience without risk. Was this bus truly the easiest way to travel on the entire earth? Uncertainly. Years ago, we purchased some slakey beverages of a forgotten brand but remembered slogan. That slogan was this: One of America’s two great beers. So it goes. A one-way trip from Sarasota to Miami on a Trailways bus similar to this in luxury and comfort cost only $6.45 as advertised in a 1966 Sarasota Herald Tribune. We’re not sure if bus #184 made the Sarasota-Miami run, but it looks as if it could have a few stories to tell wherever on earth it traveled. The seller has little to say about it, only that it’s in good condition.

As Tedy's on the Island, I'll chime in.. Yes, we have had electric buses around here for years! and before that, we had the electric street cars. We call them trolley buses here and they run on the major routes, primarily within Vancouver. The overhead lines really mess with AM radio reception when there is a bus nearby.

The 4th picture (blue and silver bus) is the current model, the rest are shots of older, out of service, buses.
