And you said "hard on the eyes" before I posted all this stuff...we'll all be blind if we attempt to read any of it! David
Congrats! Glad you found the one you wanted! Its a great feeling to find your dream wagon! Looks like a very neat wagon!
Tri power, a manual transmission, a proper V-8 power plant, and all in a package that you would not really suspect........these are what dreams and rolling art are made out of. Now it all comes clear why people want to go back to the 60s.
Thanks for all the compliments. I am truly fortunate to have found it... Or, truth be told, he found me. I do have a copy of the Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) that tells about the car and what it all came with. The great part is that all of that stuff is still there. The folks I bought it from bought it with 28,000 miles on it in '68 and they never changed much except tires and oil. The story is that a surgeon in El Paso TX ordered it new to tow his boat back and forth to the lake. (Thus the extra mirrors up there...) As far as production, there isn't any break down of exact number of wagons with these options but for '66 there were about 8400 Bonneville wagons. And out of all the 475,000 full size cars, only 547 were ordered with a 421, tri-power, 4spd combination. Another 562 or so got the 421 HO, tri-power, 4spd, so call it 1100 total. So, the wagons were just under 2% of full size production. And the 421 tri-power 4 spd combination was just 1/4 of 1% (0.23%) of full size production. So if 2% of that combination happen to be a wagon, there might be as many as 22 just like it out there, but I kinda doubt it.
Nice Boneyville Teej. Buy some 20 ton jack stands to hold that thing up. They may have a jack and some stands they used for the space shuttle for sale down that way now that they don't need them no more, maybe NASA will have a garage sale. With that four speed you'll be singing "Row Row Row your Boat" when you're driving that dreadnought in stop and go traffic. You should be able to watch the gas gauge go down and see birds being sucked right out of the sky into your grills when you open up all those carbs too. There probably is a circuit breaker that feeds the window relay and power seat directly, may be on the firewall, I doubt it feeds the blinkers and horn though. Some had a lug on the horn relay for the wire to feed the breaker, if so check to see if the horn relay is getting juice from the battery. Just figure the timing set is bad and replace it if it has the nylon coated gears, no big deal if you already have the water pump off and a balancer puller. I think you can pull the fuel pump and stick your finger in there and feel if the chain has a lot of slack too. I just sold my Vista Cruiser after a four year resto, fancy transporter picked it up on Tuesday. The driver checked the car out and said I should go into the resto business because it looked better than most of the concours cars he picks up, my head got real big, lucky my other car is a convertible or the roof would need a "Gurney bump" for cranium clearance. I finished it, drove a few hundred miles and got a few trophies, now on to bigger and better things, no more Oldsmobiles, first and last... for several reasons, the cars are great though. I added up all the receipts and actually broke even on it doing 95% of the work myself, amazing. Now I'm looking for a clean, low mileage '95-'96 Buhog Roadmonster, need a newer car to go look at more old cars to buy... and haul full 4x8 sheets of plywood in luxury while doing it.
People call me lots of things, most of them can't be repeated here or in public places. If I can find a blue one Blue Buick would work. I like Bluhog more.
Tried to send you a PM so as not to hijack this thread, BV....with wagons for sale. You have no PM address?
You should be able to PM any member, Fox. It's just if somebody doesn't have an e-mail address, they won't get a e-mail notification of the PM - just when the log on to the forum (at least I think that's how it works...)
Wow, one of the coolest wagons I've ever seen, congrats on a great find! What are your plans for this car, restoration, clean it up and drive it?
Plans are pretty simple really. Clean it up, fix it up and drive it. Then fix it some more clean up some more, drive it some more. Repeat. Hopefully for a long long time. I need to get the rear window down (and a few other electricals) and get a few things straightened out (front end wise) Then pull/push it into my garage and start working on getting that 421 fired up. Re-do the brakes and fuel lines and go from there
Congrats on the Purchase!!!!! Always Glad to see anouther Arrowhead Longroof Saved!!!! And that car is special, 4-speed wagons are rare!!!! Have you concidered putting a set of 8-lug Wheels and brakes on it instead of Disc's? They work almost as well, could have been ordered on the car, have a unique Pontiac Look to them, and are a straight Bolt on so no real changes to undo if you ever want to put it back to original condition. http://www.pontiacparadise.com/parts-id/8-lug-wheels.php
I like that idea! Those wheels are so cool, I'm kinda surprized it doesn't already have them! Let's hope teej is susceptible to peer pressure! David
