Options "packages" drive me nuts. A few jobs ago, the boss gave me a base model mini-van as a service vehicle. Being in the security business meant keeping it locked at all times. As the base model didn't have power locks I had to walk around to all 5 doors every time I parked the truck. When we went to get another van I chimed in that it should have power locks but the dealership wouldn't let us have that without also taking power windows, AC, and a few other items for a pretty hefty increase in price. Seemed stupid that they weren't willing to take some money for one option rather than not get any money for an option group.

Can you still do special orders from the factory? Like a base model with power door locks?

I am curious as to what mini van this was? in 99 I bout my wife's GMC Saffari mini van new, it was a bace model with hand crank windows but had AC and power door locks. The dealer said ALL come with AC and power door locks and I believe it as I have never seen one with out including bae model cargo GMC/Chevy mini vans, yet my wife's 99 is the olny van perioud I have seen with hand crank windows that has the full interiour..carpet, seats etc.

Seems pretty likely that I misremembered AC being on the list (I do remember wishing it was in the van). I think it was PDL, PW, and two other options that were in an option group and they had to go together as a Power Package. This would have been a 1990-1991 Caravan if I remember correctly.

Somehow I fail to understand the problem with smoking and driving a stick.
By using my mouth and left hand............

OK, so maybe I get some ashes on the floor, but then that's what vacuum cleaners are for:rofl2:

You're kidding me! What do they do in downtown areas? I was downtown today and of course, parallel parked. We all know that takes skill in what we all drive! :dancing: I didn't parallel park on my driver's test. It was at 7am in a small town, there was nobody to park by. I am good at it though, my mom and I practiced like crazy when she taught me how to drive.

In Joplin they have set up on a back street a parallel parking test spot with poles. I took my driving test once and passed parallel parking with one try... in a full size luxury model Chevy van from the 80's. Hearses have more visibility than this thing.

I prefer a manual transmission, but right now everything I own has an automatic.

My daughters both learned to drive my manual transmission cars and it was amazing how few of their classmates knew how to drive a stick.

I think shifting makes driving more fun...and it DEFINITELY makes you pay closer attention to your driving.

 Who pays attention to their driving now days? And it's so awkward while texting, putting on make-up, and eating a drive through breakfast to have to shift.

The damage was amazing. I read all reviews on that post. I saw no cell phone, fast food, make up or even a stick shift. I was wondering if there were any skid marks. I doubt it. That would take a fairly good speed to do so much damage. Thank God no one was between or near either car. Something like this could change where and how car shows will be displayed.
