Do you know if they came with them? Mine doesn't have one. I wondered if the Fox Mustangs did or some high-end Zephyr from 1978-1982.

Do I detect some memory chuckle coming around? :biglaugh: I'd like to find one to track my mileage between fillups. But a pencil will do until I find one.

    Drive - Ins

We still have one left north of Cincinnati just west of Hamilton OH. From what I hear it's a very family friendly place with decent flicks. They say the thing that keeps them open is the nostalgia value. They keep a neat clean place and people bring their kids to see what it was like in the day. I'll have to take my daughter up there this summer. When I was a kid (60's-70's) we had four drive-ins just in my immeadiate area. Progress?

There is a "drive-in" restaurant in town called Studebaker's (with two Lowey coupes sitting out front no less) but the locals have told me the food is horrible and there is no in-car service. So why do they call it a drive-in again? I'll stick to Sonic. Although the Sonics around here do not have car shows, they have small car shows at least monthly at the Baptist church a few blocks south of one of the Sonics, so that's close enough.

Last showing at the church show had plenty of Mustangs and Camaros and pickups and a couple other oddities (a Crosley roadster being one of them) but NO wagons. There was one pretty ratty '64 Bel Air wagon driving by but it didn't stop to show itself off. He must not be done cleaning it up yet.

As for drive-in theaters, there is one (allegedly) in Glen Rose, but we haven't tried to find it yet (can't fit all 9 of us in one vehicle). I'm looking forward to doing that when we're vehicularly equipped to handle it.

Hey, I still have one here in town ! The Solono Drive-In here is still open. Take the treck out here and catch a flick. Drive-Ins are a dying breed.

In fact hmm It would b a killer meeting place in case we ever do a get together. I can see it, a few thousand wagons watching a movie some balmy summer night. .

We have 5 within 20 miles at the most 2 in Erie PA, 1 in Waterford PA, 1 in Corry PA, and a big one in Jamestown NY. 4 of them are up and running strong 1 of them is dying off and 1 of them is 3 years old that had 2 screens, they are adding 2 more for next year. So they can play 4 different movies at the same time. All of them offer a $8 per car for the double features except the one in Erie, PA which charges $5 per person and they have lost so much business because of it. The other in Waterford, PA runs nothing but Rated R on Friday& Sunday nights and X Rated movies on Saturdays :2_thumbs_up_-_anima

We hit the drive-ins almost weekly and 3 of them offer a cruse in car show during the day with a huge BBQ and your entry fee of $15 covers 4 people, food and the double feature shows when dark comes creeping in.

We hit the 1 here about every 2 weeks...:)

as for the blue movies....there used to be a drive in out here that did the same thing...nuttin but T&A:49:
then they built a condo complex next to it...that was its death certificate !

The land got too valuable for the drive-ins in the Southern California 'burbs. Turned into car dealerships, shopping centers, condo complexes, you name it. Any that are still open probably make more money as open-air swap meets than as movie places. What a shame - gonna have whole generations of kids who won't know what a 'drive-in' is..........

The land values are a major factor for the death of suburban drive-ins.

Something else that hasn't been mentioned though, are the huge improvements in regular theaters' surround sound systems and very nice home theater systems becoming more and more affordable.
I think the decline began with the introduction of home video rentals.
