Clark gets new shoes

I finally got some new rubber for Clark a few weeks ago at Pep Boys. They had Cooper tires and the ONLY ones I could find that said made in "USA". I had some cheap-o off brand tires before and I could never get them to balance out right. So far (knock on wood) these coops are doing very well. They are nice and quiet, took the wagon out on I-90 here in Chicago at 80 MPH and it sang so very well.

Interesting info, wagnut. About the "made in USA" I mean. to you for trying to buy American. I sure hope those tires work out for you. Keep us posted......Maybe Cooper will be the brand of choice if they really are made here.

 

I had some Chinese made tires when I bought the '77 in 2005. They where cheep and fit my budget when I was in college. The tires on the '77 where flat for years and just where not road worthy. I put about 10k miles on these China made tires, other then holding air, they where not worth the rubber they where made out of.

I try to find anything American, Canadian, or Mexican made for my cars. A few years ago, I could still find brake rotors, reman alts, and various other bits really with out a problem. NOW, everything says China on it. Don't get me wrong, I have no issues with Chinese people themselves. Just they stuff that is made from there is junk and I always have to seem weird issues with the products.

 

The cooper's are made in Ohio I believe or at least they originated thier. They are also the maker of Mastercraft tires which is a tire I've run a good bit being resonably priced and have had pretty good luck with.

 

You are correct about that one. I have a set of Mastcraft from my Lincoln. They are great too. I think they will be used on the '73 (same size on there now) as soon as I can get a decent set of white walls.

 

Mastercraft had the A/S IV which was a white wall but it was replaced last year by a new line but if you were happy with them ask what replaced the A/S IV.


FYI....I have nothing to gain from this even though I am starting to sound like a salesman for Mastercraft

 

I believe that is the problem. They are NOT made from rubber.

I want my whitewall BFGoodrich Comp T/A HR4s back! THAT was a big car tire. Only rated for 80,000 km (50,000 miles), but I run snows in the winter. Nora is needing new shoes, and I think I'm going Pirelli P6, in a 226/60R16, on a set of Magnum500, 16X7, from Wheel Vintiques. Need something that habdles, since Nora is my only car. I NEED a wagon! She's on Nokian Haakapilliittas, 215/70R15s snows right this moment.

In the picture, she's with her larger cousin, Bertha. We bought both in February this year. Needless to say, we buy by the pound. $2,500 for almost 7,000 lbs of car sounds like a deal to me!

 

I tried to post a picture of Bertha and Nora, but it didn't take for some reason.

 

I just found out that Hankook makes a really good white wall tire in the 225/70R15 size Nora needs. Everything I've heard about Hankooks tells me they are supposed to be pretty good, and at $125 or so a piece, a good price too.
