Well my wagon isn't worthy of a book but somedays when I am working on it and as my dad says,"can't get my head out of my ass" would make a damn good comedy:rofl2::biglaugh:

Ha! Who can't relate to that? True of every one of us. Just a look at my wagon is enough to inspire manic laughter in most people... so I don't HAVE to work on it!

    Hi Guys!

I am the sales manager for CarTech, and normally I don't chime in on the book threads, just lurk and let nature take it's course.

For this project, I thought I would share a little of the origins. A past editor brought a proposal to one of our new book idea meetings, and it was a book about 70s vans. Now, not to disparage 70s vans or anything, after all, many of us may have been created in one, and I don't want to piss off the people at www.ilovemyvantodeath.com, but my response in that meeting was "Why the hell would we do a book about vans when there are so many cool wagons out there?".

They all looked at me and said, "Well, YOU propose it then!". And the rest is history.

Fortunately for this forum and let's face it, the entire free world in general, we now have a book on really cool station wagons and not a book on Vans.

Hey Max - Thanks for chipping in with that back story! If asked to do a book on vans, I don't know that I could rise to the occassion... Station wagons - no sweat! By the way, several of us forum members may well have been concieved in a wagon.......

Well Rev - I can't refuse any writing assignment. For I am nothing, if not obedient to my publisher. As long as the check clears, of course.

I've learned some beautiful ugly truths about myself, in the course of being assigned to some topics I initially balked at. With the right mindset, I might get Van Go! fever and write an impassioned piece on vans. But it sure comes easy for wagons - no pep talk needed...

The first car I ever got running was a '53 Ford 2-door wagon that I bought off the back row of 'Jim's Better Buys' for $75. I was 12 years old. I've been junk ever since for wagons. By the way, that car served me well for two years, then puked the rods out of the six banger, right in front of Jim's, where it coasted to a stop in the dirt lot in a puddle of its own smoking oil, never to run again.

    UPDATE!!!
For those looking to buy the book on this 'opening weekend': Max Power tells me the slow boat from China (where the printing was done) is stuck in Seattle for some kind of inspection. Maybe the books picked up some radioactivity passing by Japan? If so, these glow-in-the-dark books have just become instant collectors items, with no illumination necessary for bedtime reading! Bonus!
CarTech's legal department is frantically working with the Patent Office, as I write this. I continue to be the luckiest guy in town...

    UPDATED UPDATE!!!

This just in from Max Power: The book shipment cleared inspection on Friday and is now en route to Chicago. He says it'll be another week or so before they hit the stores. I don't know if this is a fluke, or typical in this business, but it seems to be a golden opportunity for me to learn a lesson in patience... My apologies to those who are waiting. Wish there was something I could do, but it's all out of my hands now. Luckily, I'll be plenty busy while I wait - lots to do...

Teej: Yeah, this shipment was headed to the bookstores and online companies who sell the book. I'll update as info gets to me.

I really feel for the 60-some people who's wagons are featured in the book! They were tired of waiting, the day after I wrote their features. That's been seven months ago. Hopefully, it'll be worth the wait for everyone...

If you have a long name, please don't enter this contest - I'm suffering from writers cramp, as it is. Thank you.
