ALL Cadillac wagons are custom built, not factory, so the decision to use skirts is up to the builder.
Custom built?? wow...I didn't know that. So, Joe....when you say "not factory"....what does that mean? OH....wait....are you talking about the OLDER Caddy wagons???
Thanks Joe, does that go the same as for the bumpers, because my husband has a 67 Cadillac wagon it has the 67 front end but it has a mixture of a 69 and 70 rear bumper. How did they do that? Latrice
The full-sized GM wagon bodies were basically the same from '65 through '70. (I'm talking about the 'wagon=specific' structure - roof, wagon area side glass, rear floorpan, etc....) Cadillac did not sell their own station wagon back then. Some private body companies, usually associated with ambulance or hearse builders tried their hand at converting Caddy sedans or hardtops into wagons. They would use the normal GM wagon parts to convert them. The builder was on their own as to how they designed the wagon, using whatever parts would work out of the GM parts bin. The GM wagons changed in '71 to a completely different style, using a 'clamshell' design tailgate. It was more complicated, so I've seen a few Caddy wagons from '71 or later using the older wagon design from '70 or before. Do a 'google' on 'Cadillac Station Wagons' There's a site devoted to them.
Your hubby's should look similar to this, except this is a '68.. ('67 and '68 Cads were fairly similar....)
There is an article about cadilac wagons in the issue thats on the shelves, it tells how there made. The article is in Hemmings Classic Car
Elvis had a '72 which just sold at auction. I think it was claimed to be "factory", one of two, the other built for Dean Martin. Everything in those auction catalogs is true
Some Caddy's have Skirts.... Becuase some are girls! Duh!!! Just kidding... couldn't resist. When I was 14 years old, we went to buy a new caddy (every 4-years religously), and in the showroom was an Eldorado Wagon. Even at a young age, I knew it was something special.
Girl Caddies I am sure you are correct, I think Caddies are girls. LOL Here are some pictures of the Cadillac wagon.
