I know in the 80's, and into the 90's that GM used the Caprice wagon as the base for the Olds and Buicks, as you can tell by the interior designs, and just changed out the dashes, front end caps and tail lights.

Im wondering if anyone knows the reason why buick didnt use the Roadmaster sedan front end on the wagons? Does anyone have pics of one that has been changed?

The Olds wagon was a stand alone model with no matching sedan, the Caprice was a set, and the Roadmaster wagon should have looked like the roadmaster sedan.. Just a thought.

Here's what I remember from reading a thread over on ISSF....

The Roadmaster sedan didn't come out until a few months after the wagon. Don't know specifically why, but maybe the 'sedan' from end wasn't ready; the sedan was built at a different plant, IDK.....
-- But it'sgot something to do with the sedan coming out later. Don't knowwhy they never switched over the wagon to the sedan front - it's not that big of a deal to change.

i always thougth if i ever had one, id like to swap the front end over to the sedan front end. and maybe the sedan seats, some of those were more plush than the wagons from what i remember.

    maybe one day......

anyone have a picture of one thats been done? id just like to see it. it cant be that hard of a swap, the hardes part would be finding the sedan front end to use.

I saw one over at impalass, Jase. That's where I THINK I saw it...pretty sure. It DOES look nice for sure. I don't know how to find the pic. Maybe search in the the wagon section for "sedan front"? That's the way they should have been built. And the seats too. The back seat would have to have been reworked but it sure would have been a great car. It's a great car now but it would have had more class with the sedan stuff IMO.

i think with the sedan front end and chrome treatment on the roadie wagon, you wouldnt need the wood. I want one in that black cherry color that looked so good on the sedans, cant decide if id want the wire hubcaps or the aluminum wheels.

Good find, Fat. Well....in looking at these again....I think they do look more classy.....but.....I think the wagon fronts look more racy. Don't think I would do this to mine.

Your wagon, NO!. Kinda funny this tread came up, in the last month a sedan has apeared and I see it alot driving my local erea by a lady and the only thing that came to my mind was "Dam I'd love that front clip on a whale"...my kind of lady, big ride, nice new MEATY snow tires/ice tires on all 4's, on winter rims....HEY, I married a girl like that!:yup:. In the origonal post I do agree with Black though, it just doesn't have the look in a lite colour, but a dark colour, oh yeah!

that is beautiful. i wish buick had made them that way. woudlnt have cost anymore to do it at the factory. now i want one to do that too, but i cant get comfy in a roadmaster, the floor pans are too shallow...:-( and i LOVE the cars, just cant stay in one long

Take it from a guy with arthritis in both knees, Its the most comfortable car out of the 50+ that I have owned. That is what the 12 way power seats are for. I owned a Box 79 Caprice and the floor pan is not much different and my Roadie is alot more comfortable a car to sit in thanks to the seats.

the seats are great, but its the floor pans i have trouble with, i cant get my legs comfortable. my colony park is much better for me because my legs can drop down from the seat instead of out in front of me like im on a sliding board.

my best friend has a roadmaster and i spent 2 days driving hers, hoping i could get comfortable when one was for sale cheap, but i never could. my 85 caprice is ok in town, but on a trip it cramps my legs also, because the seat is too close to the floor.

the roadmasters do ride better than my mercury, but the floor boards are the deal breaker.. oh, and dont forget the lt1 kicks the 5.0's tail, but....:banghead3:
