Well....it's 20 below zero right now (9:20 AM) real temp. I knew it was going to be cold today so I ran to the store last night to pick up a few things so I wouldn't have to go out for the next few days. It was 4 above then and, with the wind, it was a killer. It looks nice out now with the sun shining brightly. Can't wait till it gets up to today's sweltering high of 4 degrees. Did I ever mention that I HATE WINTER!!!!
Wow, Foxy! I can't imagine living with those kinds of temperatures in Winter. I don't know how you do it! You are definitely made of tougher stock than I. David
I'll ride along, CE. Just name the time and place. I lived in CA and in FL and didn't care much for them for certain reasons. BUT....I'm older now and warm is good!
We can relate Fox. We were so tired of it when we moved and we get forecasts and emails from friends back in the old home town and they are getting plastered (with snow that is-and quite possibly in the other way as well). You are doing a smart thing by staying inside and warm. I can't even imagine -20 F any more. It would be worse than walking in to a Safeway store's walk-in cooler. Stay warm, we'd hate for you to lose a few fingers to frostbite. That would really bugger up your posts.
Its 4 degrees here now Foxy, today it was 11 when I got to work. The 9 mile trip that normally takes me less then 15 minutes took me almost 45 minutes this morning at 4am. It was snowing so damn bad that I could not see 20 yards infront of the car then the wind would kick up and I couldn't even see past the windshield, it was like a torrential downpour, but it was snow. My wipers were on high and could not keep the glass clear. Then I get to work and the radio said the windchill factor was at -12 with the 40mph winds. I froze my ass off during the 1/4 walk from the parkinglot to the employee door, then had to wait in the -12 degree 40mph winds for another 10 minutes until a fulltime employee came along with a key card to let this lowly temp inside. My fingers were so froze I could not even unzip my jacket until I went into the bathroom and ran them under a luke warm tap. I hate winter so much that the only snow I ever want to see after we move to the Philippines is on the TV or in pictures. I will never miss winter and cold temps, if I do, I just have to remember 6 - 18" of overnight snowfall we normally get and 3 days of aching back from shoveling the white sh*t. We have 187.2" of snowfall so fall already and its only about 1/2 way through winter. Did I ever mention that I hate winter too?
It would seem we now live in the new B.C. Our day started off fine(for January) about mid afternoon it started to snow(for about an hour) then it all changed to rain...really messy(+4c) for the drive home! I took the scenic route(back road) 4wd all the way...no worries...I love my Jimmy! The temp. is going to drop over night, should make for shiney roads by morning. Oh well no work until Monday
About that snow shoveling - a fellow from our home town was out this morning with his wife doing snow duty. She breaking the snow up with the shovel and he coming along with the snow blower to get it out of the way. Suddenly he wasn't coming along and she found him on the ground, dead of a heart attack. The cold air intake along with the type of exertion one does not typically do is the likely cause. Be care out there kids. Its a dangerous world for those of you who do anything in the bitter cold.
You guys all have my sympathies on the winter cold. Being one of the "southernmost" members here in GA I'm also sick of the cold weather, haha. We've had a pretty chilly winter so far by our standards down here with even nasty ice that immobilized us almost a week. The good thing about living in GA in the winter is that we usually get a few days where temps hit the 60's or at least the 50's allowing us to get outdoors and do things to break "cabin fever" somewhat. Anxiously watching the forecast to see when we're gonna get any of those type days though as its been a long stretch since the last one.
