I was working at a Ford dealer in the Fall of 1974 when these first came out. At the time, I thought they were miles ahead of anything that size. I liked the fact that you could order them with most of the 'big car' options - cruise, tilt, full power, etc. They road a lot better than the LTDII or Maverick. I don't know why there seems to be so few of these around...... (Would have made a great compact / midsize wagon, too. Too bad Ford didn't see that as important.)
it seems to me that the late 70's to about the mid 80's ford had a lot of "wait....lets do this instead" moments. why did they make the fox body ltd II for only 3 years then kill it for the taurus?
That is clean, you can see the interiour influence was passed on to the Fox body Fairmonts etc. Several friends back in the day drove these, there own and parrents cars. A friends girlfriend, her first car was the Mercury vertion in a 2 door, the Monark. I don't think caling the 302 in this one "rare" is correct though, all the ones I ever have seen were 302s, never seen a 6 banger till one showed up local for sale a year ago. Yeah Krash, Ford just did'nt have a better idea.....I allways wondered why no wagon of the granada, I also wondered why no wagon of the Maverick yet in Brazil you could get a maverick wagon. And you are rite ranch, they were a good car, but in the wrong time, just driven and thrown away
One of the few FORDs I actually liked. I have only seen a few 302's, most were 6 bangers and always either green or orange. I wish I could find one of these in the Philippines, but will still have my '74 Celica and possibly pick up a VW Beetle.
I'm not a mid-size guy by any means, but that's a nice looking car. Had a chance at one in mint green for 800 bucks, it was clean, but I couldn't see me driving it.
haha! I don't think those were considered 'mid-sized' in the 70's (those were the Torino's) but rather 'compacts' That car doesn't seem to have the chrome wheel lip moldings...didn't the Granada Ghias have the typical Ford think bodyside molding too that joined up with the wheel lip molding? Possibly some bodywork was done to that car? They should have made a wagon version like they did with the next gen Granadas (fox platform)
This seems to be a rather low-option vehicle, in spite of the 302 V8. The exterior is the 'base' Granada - no exterior decor option, which has those color-keyed moldings you are talking about. The interior on this one, which looks real deluxe is the 'standard' interior for '75. Ford wanted to impress with it. I believe the interior got 'decontented' in later years.
My brother had a '76 2 door, dove grey with a 351 and white interior. I had a '76 2 door ghia silver with black interior. 302. That was in '84-'88 era. Here is a nice one forsale, same wheels I had. http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/2161176043.html 1977 Ford Granada 59,600 original miles - $2500 (Hillsboro) Date: 2011-01-14, 5:49PM PST Reply to: sale-eqngk-2161176043@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] 1977 Ford Granada 302 V8 59,600 original miles Super nice shape, all original. $2500 or best offer May take Drift boat, street bike or hunting equement in trade. That would explain it normally, but it does have the Ghia vinyl roof which features the embellished "C" pillar and the Ghia logo on the "B" pillar as well as the upgraded interior...
Maybe its me or the pics, but being I was a body man for several years, it sure does look like its been repainted and has some serious orange peal that should have been color sanded and buffed out. Also looks to have some puddy in the doors, rockers and rear quarters. Seems to look like it has some waving going on, enuff where you almost want to wave back at it. It could be the pics, but I don't think so, I would say its been worked over by Earl Scheib or some other low quality hack like Maaco. Also, 34K miles, let me see that steering wheel without the ugly cover and a better shot of the peddles and carpet.
