Hi to everyone, My name is Paul and I am in the process of restoring a 1971 Chevy Vega GT Wagon, 4-speed, custom interior, Red with black interior ( will be ) , with rare factory air. I will post some pictures after the holiday. Other rides are a 2009 Honda Civic GX ( natural gas auto ), 1999 Chevy Suburban ( extra large wagon!). Also restoring a 1971 Chevy shortbed 4 x 4 pick-up. We live just north of Pittsburgh, Pa. Everyone have a great Christmas.
My 71 Vega GT Day I brought it home- from Alabama Original color was Green w/ green interior - this is a very poor repaint. I will do it over in an original vega red for 1971. I purchased almost all the interior parts in black.
Hi Cliff - No small block. I Plan on as close to original as possible, except for engine internals. I have a new GM block I found in Texas. Will install steel sleeves and run 11 to 1 pistons I have with a reground cam. The speed shop near me worked on a lot of Vega engines in their day. Same person owns the shop. He built some over 175 hp. Factory hp was 110 - should end up around 140 to 150 hp. My first new car was a 71 Vega coupe my dad co-signed with me when I was 18. It was a regular coupe - not a GT. He said the $8.00 extra a month was to much to add for the GT package and I agreed. Funny now with a lot of car lease payments of $500.00 to $800.00 a month ( not me - mine are all paid for! ) Regards and Merry Christmas Paul
As light as Vega's are 140-150 HP is respectable. I has a 76 hatchback almost 30 years a go what a rust bucket,But I only paid $175.00 for it and kept oil and trans fluid in it and went where ever I wanted on the cheap.
Neat wagon! It's been years since I've seen one. I thought the Vegas were neat looking cars when they came out.
Hi everyone - thanks for the nice comments. A couple more pictures- Drivers side and interior dash - as purchased. The dash has already been pulled and restored. Will upload pictures of the restored dash after I take a few pictures of it.
Hi Rev. Love the Edsel - neat wagon! I uploaded a few photos of a 1971 VW bus, a 65 ElCamino, and a 68 Chevy 4x4 truck I sold a few years back to get capital for a new business. Killed me to do so, but you need to go backwards sometimes to move ahead. ( I know the hood scoops on the 65 belong on a 67 but I liked them - its easy to change a hood ) ) Regards Paul
Hi Stickman Thanks for the nice comments. I wanted to do the 4 because almost every Vega you see ( not like there is a lot of them out there ) has a V8 in it. Paul
aboard. Nice little Vega... brings back memories...we had one(not a wagon) seems to me we pushed it alot but it was fun to drive around in when we got it going. Good luck with yours.
