, I dun broked sum tin on my 65 GMC I hav'nt had time or daylite to look but this morning it was stupid stiff to put in nutral. In colder weather it does get stiff going to nutral till you drive a bit but today was the last shift you could say and it was'nt even cold out side. I got into nutral for 1st gear once and never again. It's a 3 on the tree and all I can do is 2nd and 3rd gear. Any seasoned vets have a sugestion as to what may be the cause? I'm thinking it's in the colum itself? I am regular at inspecting the linkage, lube/greasing etc. Every winter it's stiff when cold but as I mentioned it's been worse this winter and the fact, the last few days have been very warm.:confused: Due to the holidays and family plans the Buick will be on the road instead of the truck for driving to work, salt snow, you name it......:banghead3:
I must say Tedy, I just love that GMC of yours. Always really liked that vintage of GM truck. Remember drawing pictures of it as a kid......
Thanx Krash, Myself as kid loved the looks also compared to other trucks and I honestly never thought I'd find one worth owning, let alone one I could aford. I use it as truck and allways drive it in bad weather instead of the wagons and I have allways tooken care of it. The first winter I had it (in cold weather) and the nutral shift was stiff I was concerned. I was told by old timmers that it's a normal thing, don't worry.... now I worry.
Tedy - I had a '57 that hung up like that. Was at the column where the shifter arms come out. The bushings had worn out and allowed the shifter arms to bind. I ended up changing out the column - for - a '64 that worked pretty good, but then the '64 was close to new back then ;0
Tedy...my Wayne agrees with Safari...ORRRR maybe a little arthritis in the joints? It's how old...46 in car years...332 in dog years...don't put it down yet try a little "LaKoda"...sorry...no help over here
My granddad's '61 Chevy Apache 10 and my '65 Chevy BelAir would both have the shifter mess up but it would usually stick in gear. It was always the transfer piece between the two shifter arms on the column that would slip out of position. I'd open the hood and about 10 seconds with a screwdriver would fix it.
