I haven't started the wagon in 5 days, but she was plugged to keep the block warm, on a timer that kicks in at 4:00 AM and shuts off at 10:00 AM. BUT, it doesn't heat the interior. All the door locks hav lock de-icer. Never thought the ignition key lock would freeze. SOLID. Had to haul out a portable heater for 30 minutes. -24F I lubed the ignition with White Grease back in October, so I never figured it would gel up, but... it did. All's well. The thing thawed out and started like a charm, as usual.
That's COLD, Norm! Not too cold here but it's coming. I have to go to Madison today for an MRI at 5:30 PM (who has MRI's at that time of day??) There is a snow and ice storm on the way from my direction toward Madison and supposed to start around 6 PM. After the MRI I'm making a run for it back home. It's normally about a 1 & 1/2 hour drive. Hope I make it before the ice hits!
This is a pretty good site to watch. Its the satellite view, and you can switch to Forecast mode on the Lefthand side below the graphics. Just type in your city and then hit the negative (higher elevation) to see beyond 30 miles. It goes to about 750 miles above the surface. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/maps/mb/camb0244 Use the search for city box. Not the top box. Its a Canadian site without weather partners in the US, but it does show US Border state weather. Drive safe, and take a blanket.
Gawd dam Norm, you did it again and don't even know it. I've only had my truck 3 years and every winter on cold mornings my 3 on the tree would be stiff but workable till it warmed up/got used etc. I was useing a black greese in a rattle can to spray the linkage etc but this summer for what ever reason I started useing white greese and my colum is all but use less for 1st and reverse when we have been frozen. I guess it's a plan for my week end to clean it all up and go back to the other stuff.
Cant help but chime in The temperatures that you northerners put up with never ceases to amaze me. I just can not imagine having to put up with such conditions. And as a shameless self plug, i am a licensed florida realtor, in case any of you would like to leave the cold behind in the winter, and come down here. When you guys are hiding your cars in the heated garage, we are getting ours out to go to all the shows! lifes short. come on down and warm up!
just tell her tomorrows forecast is a high of 75 F and 10% chance of rain. plenty of sunshine. sounds like a great day to roll all 5 windows down, and take a ride over to the beach! oh, i forgot to mention. I live in Melbourne, a coastal town, so there is plenty of water and sand to play in. wagons are great to take the surf rods in, since they can hang out the back! i think i just figured out what to do tomorrow. Thanks!
Geez, Norman, now I feel like such a wimp, complaining about plus 8 and all. Mike - hope the trip was okay for you.
Thanks, saf. It is just now coming in at 5:30 on Saturday. No problems at all with the weather last night. Still....glad to be home. From here on we will have lots of snow, temperatures dropping from 37 degrees to 4 degrees and the accompanying winds. Not going to be pleasant for a few days it looks like.
Glad you are home safe and sound Fox. Norman, you have ALL the luck. Here I am with a snowblower, just itching to use it, and what do we get? Sunshine, clouds, then rain. We'll be back to a mix of sun and lots of rain but alas, no snow. What's a guy to do- oh right, I guess I could do that
YO '57. Throw the blower into the long roof and go east or north ah little. At least you could practice
Well, BBC, yes, I could do that. I think, though, with little reflection on the problem, that I'd do far better to and wait till I have a Maybe, just maybe, it will snow Christmas Eve and I can really feel impotent (urr, I mean important)
