It's not him that needs to be off the lease she has a car it's his car.

Her mom talked to her last night and " Cris doesn't want to talk about it"

She is a big girl and will unfortunately have to deal with this the way she wants .

    Unfortunately time to step back.

I guess you all understand my frustration.

Sounds like he wants to 'abandon' the car.

    Option 1:
Find out what the lease payoff amount is. Compare that to the vehicle's real market value. If it's close, pay of the lease and sell the car.

    Option 2:
Find out what your cost is to return the vehicle early - probably some kind of penalty.

    Play hardball with Mr. BF.

We had a similar situation with our older daughter. Idiot jerk of a BF stuck her for a $3,000 loan on a $1,500 K5 Blazer. ( and that wasn't all he stuck her with, if you catch my drift......)

It's a brand new 2010 diesel jetta he has only had it like 3 months.

Not sure where it will be when he leaves but it's not abandoned ..yet.

I'm hoping he looks after his responsibles and looks after the car and both of thier credit history.

Oh to be young and impulsive again!

Sound of hand washing, as everyone(but me and the wife) says that he will continue paying for it and it's no big deal.

Time will tell, thanks for all the advise and ideas.

GN, I don't know how old your daughter is, mine is 23. A couple times in her life I stuck my nose in where it may/may not have not belonged and once it had to do with $$$ and a guy "friend". Feelings were hurt, even after I got her $$$ back she was pritty ticked at me but she figured out on her own who was the bad guy......and it was'nt me at the end of it.

Go have a friendly word with the guy!

(tell or dont tell him about this)
if he misses one payment you go and get that car. wrecked credit isnt worth it. as of now your daughter has a broken heart and probably isnt thinking abou tthis clearly. find a way to get the car for the day and have a spare key made. if he slips up....you got the car and a key.

Not a good situation at all, GN, especially if the lease is only 3 months old. Getting out of a lease is possible, but extremely difficult and expensive. Since the car is only 3 months old, the depreciation on it is at its highest percentage right now. You can go back to the dealer and see what he'd give your daughter for it and then compare it to the lease buy out. I hate to say it, but I'll bet there'd be at least a $5000 discrepancy which she'd have to come up with to early terminate it. Since she cosigned, if she just gave it back, her credit would reflect a voluntary which YOU DON'T WANT TO DO. She'd still be responsible for the gap between what it's worth and what the buy out is. At least with Ford Credit, I know that even if she found somene else to take over the payments, ultimately she and her boy friend would still be responsible for it. The only possiblity is if he had good enough credit to get it on his own and, perhaps, she could get her name off of it, but that's very difficult to do as well.
Sorry I don't have better advice for you, GN. I ran Ford stores for about 30 years, and I don't know of any other way around it. I suppose he could buy out the lease, but the finance company isn't real gung ho on that either, because he'd be financing way more than the VW is worth.
    Good luck.

I hope it doesn't come to that but...
We found out he is going to a camp in the north to be a paramedic.

Not sure what the time in/out is but if he's back every couple of months he will need to keep his car paid for etc.

    time will tell .

I'd still talk to the Consumer's Bureau. He has title to the car, but she has rights, as well as obligations, under the lease contract. I'll bet she could sell her 'rights' to someone else or liquidate her rights, and put a real PITA co-signer in her place. I can just imagine his face when he finds out he's driving/owning the car with a scorpion for a partner.:biglaugh:
