I'm upgrading my rear springs and shocks in my 1990 colony park wagon. Like a mullet in reverse, it's party in the front and business in the back I've been putting hundreds of pounds in the back a few times too many and now it's sagging, time for something new and heavy duty. I ordered cc819 cargo coils, but I also thought to upgrade from the generic kyb air-gas shocks in the rear. I ordered these: Monroe 58568 Sensa-Trac Load Adjusting Shock Absorber I since have gotten several people who said that they hate them. However, there are also a couple versions of the sensatrac, so I'm not sure.. And one person, and some internet reviews, from people who love them for the heavy loads. Maybe the issue is that they're too soft when you don't have a load? Even if they stiffen adequately when you do load up the wagon. Anyway, would just like to collect a couple more thoughts. Wondering if I should return them to amazon while they're still NIB, or if they're still good for the money and well suited for putting hundreds of pounds in back, maybe I'll go ahead and install them!
Never heard of them. I use garden variety Munroe shocks on the rear and the big tower shocks on the front. Macpherson suspension on the Fox Fords, in the front.
Monroe severe service shocks. If you want extra load capacity you can install air bags inside the rear springs.
There are monroe sensa tracks on my Crown Vic that were installed before I bought it, and they are alright. I would not recomend them though if you always haul alot of weight. Get the severe service ones like mentioned. On my Parisienne, I have what ever shocks that Midas puts on from thier lifetime warantee. My Grandparents got lifetime warantees on almost everything on my Parisienne, including muffler, brakes, springs, shocks, ect and it has been the best money they ever spent. I doubt Midas thought we would have the car for 26 years when we got the warantees, but I have made very good use out of them. I just take it in to get my free shocks or springs whenever they start leaking or it looks like the car is sagging.
Are those Midas shocks any good? Do they still give a lifetime guarantee? Who decides when you can get new ones through the guarantee?
bernie, you need lift bags. that way you can go with standard shocks. ill ty to find out from my friend Tim where he got his. unless 200Oz happens to see this first (he knows tim too). if i recall, unless you wanna get really fancy, you can buy this system and install it for under $150, they are airbags that go inside the rear coils (or mount to the axle on a leaf spring car). the heavy duty springs probably aren't a bad idea. the air bags will keep the car level under heavy load. ( i still think a good trailer might not be a bad idea for you here)
They are decent, I mean they are not the best that money can buy, but I have no complaints with them. They are just stiff enough where the car does not feel like it is going to roll over in a turn, but still has a smooth ride. I believe they still sell the guarantee also. I just bring it in when they start to leak or when it starts bouncing around and I never get questioned, they just put new ones on. Where they try and get you though is they also give the car a 100 and some point safety check and will try and tell you that your car needs more work done on it, but they already know with me that I am just in for the free stuff. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time it is money well spent.
JCW has the air bags made by air lift $84 the set . I have a set of the leaf springs bags for my 76 dodge truck and the work well I have had them about 2-3 years. The link below if it works is what I researched for my 77 impala http://www.jcwhitney.com/air-lift-1...filterid=c11299d265y1977j1#prodDetailTabPanel also here is a link to the installation instructions http://www.airliftcompany.com/manuals/MN-126_60769.pdf
