I was wondering till which year the 351 was an option on the Grand Marquis Colony Park. I only read that this engine option was dropped in the beginning of the 80's as most buyers found the 302 good enough.
Don't know, ours in 76 had a 460 with dual exhaust. I'm sure it was emissions or gas milage that ended the 351's availability. Not knocking the 302, but it is smallish to haul around a wagon, esp. if you want to tow. I felt the same way on my Ramcharger with a 318, nice, but not overlypowerful. MPJ
That is my feeling to, the 302 is a bit small. I have seen a 84 for sale that is advertised with a 351. It can always be a replacement of course, but I was just wondering if it was even possible as a factory option.
I don't know the exact year it was droped but just recently a 86 Marqius 4 door sedan origonal owner etstate sale (local) with low miles claimed to be a factory 351. But to ad to your last post, in 84 the 351 was still a factory option.
I would like to drop in that new 302 with the dual overhead cams! That or even see if a 7.3 idi or powerstroke or 12 valve cummins can fit in it muah ha ha haaaaa
Look the car up on the autozone website like you need parts, when it ask for what engine, it will show all aviable engines for that yr and give a % of those folks who chose it.
I'm not sure when they dropped the 351 in the U.S. in regular production cars. Sometime in the early-mid 80's. It was available in fleet cars (Crown Victoria S - non wagon) in the U.S. until '91. In Canada the 351 was available in the wagon until '91.
to put a 7.3 in there you would need to relocate the turbo and change it to a dry-sump oiling system to loose the oil pan! not to mention modify the suspension in the front to handle the extra weight!
Yeah but that's the fun in it! Also I can just go for the idi and forget the turbo... I'm also pretty sure there will be some firewall issues with the whole transmission lolz. I rather wait until that new 5.0 goes down on price in the next ten years then see about swapping it out. Also thinking of a front mounted intercooler with all that space in behind the grill. It's nice to dream every now and then.
front end push sucks, if your searious about it, wagons are easily made into mid engines with no special drive train needed
check out the ford motorsports cataloge that engine has been on the market for at least 8 years its called the "5.0 cammer" but it is the same engine!
