This thread from The Lincoln Forum.Net, starts out normally, with a guy finding a neglected '62 Lincoln for $300. The guy talks about newer engines to go in it, and what wheels he is going to put on it. Seems to jump in with both feet, fixing damage and assessing floor and trunk rust, working on this and that. So far so good...your average rebuild. But then, the thread goes off in a totally different direction - an amazing direction - and, well, check it out. http://www.thelincolnforum.net/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=24709 David
They say that that Lincoln series is the most difficult to restore. What he's doing is a whole lot of work.
The fact he is mending a '99 Lincoln Town Car Panther platform to a '62 Continental is just awesome. Takes someone with a lot of heart, money, and time to create that. This lives up to the name "custom".
Ian, the truck just had a simple nose job, the Continental had a total body lift! Focus, Ian, focus! David
Man-O-MAN! I'll tell you Wix....I have seen a ton of builds in my day and this guy is awesome. I just finished perusing every page and my eyes kept bugging out farther and farther till they smacked my puter screen when he switched directions and cut the car up! I find it absurd when he says this is really a simple job that anyone could do. Further, when I saw that car in the junk yard I thought it was a lost cause. I thought that this guy was probably some dumbass kid that was going to try and "fix it up". Frankly, I doubt that I will like the car when finished from a design sense but, that aside, it will likely be a well built car that few would have attempted let alone had the ability to accomplish. This guy has vision. He is a real car guy, artist, engineer and the energy bunny all wrapped up in one dynamo package. I'm hooked and will have to follow this to the end. Thanks for posting it!
It's a brilliant idea. And the guy sure has a lot of confidencein his abilities to even attempt this I've always loved that early 60's Continental styling - one of the most beautiful cars of that period They messed it up starting around '65....( As an aside, did you know that the Continental and '61-'63 T-Bird are related? They have the same cowl stucture. I believe the windshield is the same in both cars.) Has they guy mentioned what he's doing about the instrument panel? Since he's using the wiring loom on the Town Car, seems to me he would have to use the Town Car dash and insturments as well. A shame, since the Town Car panel is pretty ugly.
Hey Fox and Marshall, glad you are enjoying this guy's handy work. Yeah, I love this build. I would do a few things differently, but not much. He is going to use the entire interior from the Town Car, which is a shame, since the original Continental interior is as beautifully styled as the exterior. David
